I’m Disappointed In Drake. pt. 2
Well, now I’m not disappointed in Drake.
I had to write this after a re-run through some more songs. And a realization of a different perspective.
Drake is the same person who gave you people hits like Toosie Slide, God’s Plan and In My Feelings. Some of you might’ve even listened to it without realizing it’s by Drake.
Ankit, why are you doing a second part of a review for “For All The Dogs” Album?
The answer is perspective. After going through lyrics and trying to understand the emphasis of the album, I realize that this album has a deeper but metaphorical representation of what Drake has turned into now.
I did address the fact that Drake sounds tired, fed up and upset on this album. That’s because he is.
Drake has become one of the richest artists of all time, but what comes with huge fame and a valuable net worth is a lot of fake and un-trustworthy love.
In multiple tracks, Drake refers to his issues with multiple women that have broken up with him and he tries to understand the problem instead of calling himself the problem and leaving it there. He refers to the wealth he has built up throughout the years and how he tends to treat them nicely throughout relationships, but he fails to understand why they choose other people over him and why he falls apart from them.
We also get a clear picture of his increased involvement in gambling and more bad habits. It’s easy for me to speculate that he’s now an alcoholic. All the pressure that has been arriving on him due to him not being able to find the love of his life, and that becoming the reason for him to being alone on tours and not finding a companion through romantic perspective has put him into things that are bad for his health, he’s also pushing his 40s and it becomes a concern for any adult.
I was obviously fed up and disappointed with the album in the first part of my review, especially his promise of how he’s providing us the “Old Drake’ back.
But if you see deeper through the album, you’ll realize that it actually is, in fact, the old Drake. Or at least the style of Music.
The lyrics clearly refer to heartbreaks, which is what an average Drake fan is going through most of the times. Bad time for a joke, but yeah. Most of the lyrics point out to the reminiscing of previous companions as he struggles to move on in life.
But Ankit, how does this justify the album and its significance?
It all comes down to relatability. People use music to relate to their problems in the hope of being able to cope up with the issues that happen in their lives. Drake has brought it back with this album.
Drake speaks about not being able to find out what the issue is when it comes to finding out a perfect relationship, obviously as he is blinded by the perception that money is supposed to solve all this and help him find someone. Unfortunately, the wealth of our lives don’t compensate for our feelings.
Drake speaks about the trust issues and lack of faith he holds now, he even gets enraged on some tracks due to his mind being fogged up by the thoughts he holds within himself. It sounds vague yet deep.
He’s tired of putting up this fake show of being satisfied and happy. He’s tired of putting up this fake tough act. He needs to get off of alcohol and slight drugs.
I’ll agree we did not get the old Drake back, but we definitely got back the old Drake music that held a factor of relatability.
All I can say is, I hope the break he plans on taking from music helps him heal throughout life.
This project was INDEED for all the dogs. The “dogs” referring to other people who hold fame, wealth and are also unable to find true love in life. They stand confused by this phenomenon of what else is there that they’ve failed to offer to and for their companions?
We did not get the project we were exactly expecting, but the value this holds instead is much more incredible, and I shall provide this a better rating after giving more listens to the album.
We all need to cope through the things we go in our lives, and when we have a coping mechanism like Music, we depend on it, fully. Thank You Drake. This may not’ve been your best project, but it was certainly something that provides a more significant perspective towards affection, feelings for someone and love.
We all get tired of the people in life, we all need someone we can depend on. To heal from the old ones we need to forget about and to find new ones is all life is about. This is what Drake’s loved projects and songs are also all about. They’ve helped us men at times.
